IN Buddhist meditation if you stare …it seems to me that this will stop the mind..as long as you don’t move your eyes…I personally still myself and then try to feel and find my heart beat. Sometimes it takes ten minutes…then if Im centered the heart beat will slightly rock me.

When our mind is as clear and tranquil as the surface of the water, no matter where we go or what we do, we will always stay calm and happy.
We can solve many difficult problems and obstacle always with kind and loving thoughts.

Meditation is about awareness and we use objects (breathing, walking, cooking, eating..etc) to focus on our awareness.
The most interesting object is the MIND, but we have to use other objects (breathing…etc) to understand OUR MIND. Once we understand how our mind behaves on every nano-second, we have to THE CHOICE to change the way it behaves. We can stop our thoughts (anger, hatred, love, obsession, depression, loneliness…etc). This is when our thoughts will stop being agitated.

The focus on meditation is where you place your mind upon. On this video, the monk has mentioned about breathing meditation, a common type of meditation. On breathing meditation, the focus is the breath.
Another type meditation is a walking meditation and the focus is on the foot. Other meditations such as cooking, eating…etc… the focus on the movement of the hands and other process while cooking and eating.

To be able to focus on only one thing such as breathing or a buddha figure is very difficult but if you can gradually achieve longer time sgments of pur focus then it will help you in your life. This relates in your life by not being so distracted by negative feeling and learn to ignore thm and be a better person and to help people and become a buddha.

for example: a red chair . for the instant you think of red chair to visualize, you are focused but after that instant, your mind leads to you picturing something else that is red such as a macaw or something else made of wood or a chair you sat on with your grandmother.

superjew1000 THIS WILL TAKE MORE THAN ONE COMMENT BOX…… if you sit and think about ANY object and ONLY that single object then you are practicing to focus your mind without distractions. It sounds simple but it is very difficult for example you think of a red chair. You picture a chair. Then you think of the color, art work on it, size, shape, etc. and all these things cause you to think of something else related to that aspect of the chair.

There was this one time I went jogging before I meditate, I found it better to concentrate. Bcoz when you jog and you pant away, you focus so much on your breathing.
And then when you sit down and meditate, my mind just go blank, and it was a successful meditation i would say.
